Hun Gujjar and Hunza Valley

HUNZA VALLEY named on HUNS (Hun Gujjars). Which is a mountainous valley in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. The Hunza is situated north/west of the Hunza River. There is also a Hunza Peak which at about 6,000 metres. The Huns were "a confederation of warrior bands", ready to integrate other groups to increase their military power, in the Eurasian Steppe in the 4th to 6th centuries AD.
The Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus, who completed his work of the history of the Roman Empire in the early 390s, recorded that the "people of the Huns ... dwell beyond the Sea of Azov near the frozen ocean". Since Joseph de Guignes in the 18th century, historians have associated the Huns who appeared on the borders of Europe in the 4th century AD with the Xiongnu ("howling slaves") who had invaded China from the territory of present-day Mongolia between the 3rd century BC and the 2nd century AD. Otto J. Maenchen-Helfen was the first to challenge the traditional approach, based primarily on the study of written sources, and to emphasize the importance of archaeological research. Thereafter the identification of the Xiongnu as the Huns' ancestors became controversial.
Xiongnu and Huns used bronze cauldrons, similarly to all peoples of the steppes. Based on the study and categorization of cauldrons from archaeological sites of the Eurasian Steppes, archaeologist Toshio Hayashi concludes that the spread of the cauldrons "may indicate the route of migration of the Hunnic tribes" from Mongolia to the northern region of Central Asia in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, and from Central Asia towards Europe in the second half of the 4th century, which also implies the Huns' association with the Xiungnu. The Romans realized the presence of the Huns when their invasions of the Pontic steppes forced thousands of Goths to move to the Lower Danube to seek refuge in the Roman Empire in 376, according to the contemporaneous Ammianus Marcellinus. Their sudden appearance in the written sources suggests that the Huns crossed the Volga River from the east not much earlier. They invaded the land of the Alans, which was located to the east of the Don River, slaughtering many of them and forcing the survivors to submit themselves to them or to flee across the Don. Invasions of the Huns begin to be noted as Foederati and mercenaries. As early as 380, a group of Huns was given Foederati status and allowed to settle in Pannonia. Hunnish mercenaries were also seen on several occasions in the succession struggles of the Eastern and Western Roman Empire during the late 4th century. However, it is most likely that these were individual mercenary bands, not a Hunnish kingdom. In 395 the Huns began their first large-scale attack on the Eastern Roman Empire. Huns attacked in Thrace, overran Armenia, and pillaged Cappadocia. They entered parts of Syria, threatened Antioch, and swarmed through the province of Euphratesia. The forces of Emperor Theodosius were fully committed in the west so the Huns moved unopposed until the end of 398 when the eunuch Eutropius gathered together a force composed of Romans and Goths and succeeded in restoring peace. It is uncertain though, whether or not Eutropius' forces defeated the Huns or whether the Huns left on their own. There is no record of a notable victory by Eutropius and there is evidence that the Hunnish forces were already leaving the area by the time he gathered his forces. Whether put to flight by Eutropius, or leaving on their own, the Huns had left the Eastern Roman Empire by 398. After this, the Huns invaded the Sassanid Empire. This invasion was initially successful, coming close to the capital of the empire at Ctesiphon, however, they were defeated badly during the Persian counter-attack and retreated toward the Caucasus Mountains via the Derbend Pass. During their brief diversion from the Eastern Roman Empire, the Huns appear to have threatened tribes further west, as evidenced by Radagaisus' entering Italy at the end of 405 and the crossing of the Rhine into Gaul by Vandals, Sueves, and Alans in 406. The Huns do not then appear to have been a single force with a single ruler. Many Huns were employed as mercenaries by both East and West Romans and by the Goths. Uldin, the first Hun known by name,[61] headed a group of Huns and Alans fighting against Radagaisus in defense of Italy. Uldin was also known for defeating Gothic rebels giving trouble to the East Romans around the Danube and beheading the Goth Gainas around 400-401. Gainas' head was given to the East Romans for display in Constantinople in an apparent exchange of gifts. The East Romans began to feel the pressure from Uldin's Huns again in 408. Uldin crossed the Danube and captured a fortress in Moesia named Castra Martis, which was betrayed from within. Uldin then proceeded to ransack Thrace. The East Romans tried to buy Uldin off, but his sum was too high so they instead bought off Uldin's subordinates. This resulted in many desertions from Uldin's group of Huns. Alaric's brother-in-law, Athaulf, appears to have had Hun mercenaries in his employ south of the Julian Alps in 409. These were countered by another small band of Huns hired by Honorius' minister Olympius. Later in 409, the West Romans stationed ten thousand Huns in Italy and Dalmatia to fend off Alaric, who then abandoned plans to march on Rome. From 434 the brothers Attila and Bleda ruled the Huns together. Attila and Bleda were as ambitious as their uncle Rugila. In 435 they forced the Eastern Roman Empire to sign the Treaty of Margus giving the Huns trade rights and an annual tribute from the Romans. The Romans also agreed to give up Hunnic refugees (individuals who could have threatened the brothers' grip on power) for execution. With their southern border protected by the terms of this treaty, the Huns could turn their full attention to the further subjugation of tribes to the west. The Huns breached the treaty in 440 when Attila and Bleda attacked Castra Constantias, a Roman fortress and marketplace on the banks of the Danube.[64] The Eastern Romans stopped delivery of the agreed tribute, and they broke other conditions of the Treaty of Margus. The Hunnic kings turned their attention back to the Eastern Romans. Reports that the Bishop of Margus had crossed into Hun lands and desecrated royal graves further angered the Hun kings. War broke out between the two empires, and the Huns overcame a weak Roman army to raze the cities of Margus, Singidunum and Viminacium. Although a truce was signed in 441, two years later Constantinople again failed to deliver the tribute and war resumed. In the following campaign, Hun armies came alarmingly close to Constantinople, sacking Sardica, Arcadiopolis and Philippopolis along the way. Suffering a complete defeat at the Battle of Chersonesus, the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius II gave in to Hun demands and in autumn 443 signed the Peace of Anatolius with the two Hun kings. The Huns returned to their lands with a vast train full of plunder.
RANA ALI HASSAN CHOUHAN about Hunza -->   The Huns in Hunza have lost their identity and are called Ismailies or Aghan Khani a sect of Shia Muslims. The Husns in other parts are a part and parcel of Indian society from ancient time to this day. Once one educated Nawarai Hun (in Gujrat Kathiawar) went to the house of Muslim saint namely Jahanyan Jahan Gashat on his illness for consolation. In presence of many others. Nawarai Hun said as Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was the last prophet, so the Saint is last Saint. Thus Nawarai Hun praised the sant, meaning thereby that such a dignitied Saint would not be born in future. But one Syed Rajput Qatal at once issued fatwa. As you have accepted Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) the last prophet, so you have become a Muslim. If now you live as a Hindu, you are Murded-deserter of Islam whose punishment is death. To save his life Nawarai Hun fled to Feroze Tughlaq the king of Delhi. The Syed chased him. As soon as Nawarai Hun entered the Darbar (King’s Court) the Syed from behind struck him with sword and kiled him (Siyar-ul-Arifeen page159-160). The Son of Nawa Rai Hun founded a village Nawal after the name of his father. The village Nawal exists today near Meerut city, where the descendants of Nawa Rai Hun live as a part (sub-caste) of the Gurjars. The family is famous for their high position, prestige and dignity.
Kanishka was probably succeeded by Huvishka. How and when this came about is still uncertain. It is a fact that there was only one king named Kanishka in the whole Kushan legacy. The inscription on The Sacred Rock of Hunza also shows the signs of Kanishka. In the immage Kanishka inaugurates Mahyana Buddhism.

Delhi was founded by Gujjar Tanwars

Delhi was founded by Gujjar Tanwars

Delhi was founded by Gujjar Tanwars and named after the Gujjar Pratihar Emperor Mihir Bhoja the Great as Mihirawli, now called as Mehrauli is still dominated by Gujjar Tanwars.
Mr. Kanwar Singh Tanwar belong to a village Fateh Pur. This is really a good pace of progress by Gujjar tanwars considering the fcat that no Gujjar Male of more than 12 years of age of Fateh Pur was left alive after the 1857 revolt.
All the three candidates for Delhi assembly seats are from Tanwar gotra of Gujjars.
Here is the report about him published in a leading National News Paper.
This BSP candidate is worth Rs 150 crore 11 Nov 2008, 0241 hrs IST, Dipak Kumar Dash, TNN Print Email Discuss Share Save Comment Text:

NEW DELHI: He is perhaps the richest candidate in the fray for the Delhi assembly elections. BSP nominee from Chhatarpur Kanwar Singh Tanwar disclosed that he owned movable and immovable assets worth Rs 150 crore while filing his nomination papers on Monday afternoon. His net worth is thus almost 15 times the MLA local area development fund an elected representative is entitled to during his five-year tenure.
In a scenario where the majority of candidates prefer to be "discreet" when it comes to disclosing their wealth, Tanwar says "submitting wrong information in an affidavit is a crime" and that's precisely why he was "honest" in filing his affidavit. "Why should I hide anything? Wrong disclosure does not help as people of my locality know about my wealth. They are aware I have joined politics not to make money but to work for them and my locality,'' the aspiring MLA said.
Tanwar was born to a village assessee. Now a large chunk of his disclosed wealth is in the form of agricultural and non-agricultural land which includes a farmhouse in his name and an apartment owned by his wife worth Rs 5.3 crore. Clubbed together the total comes to Rs 150 crore. Besides this, his affidavit submitted with the returning officer (Mehrauli) also includes a fleet of luxury cars worth Rs 1.66 crore. Three of them are Mercs and he also owns a tractor, an indicator of his rural roots. Tanwar, who has dabbled in real estate as well, belongs to village Fatehpur Beri near Chhatarpur.
Moreover, he and his wife have invested approximately Rs 4.16 crore in banks and bonds and both of them have jewellery worth Rs 21.5 lakh. Surprisingly, this politician has taken two loans amounting to Rs 24.95 lakh from two banks.
Tanwar, who is also the secretary of BSP Delhi state unit, claims neither he nor his family have ever shown off wealth. His close associates maintain that the leader has come this far through sheer hard work. In fact, this was evident when thousands of his supporters marched behind him when he started his padyatra from his village led by two elephants, the "live" party symbols.
Locals maintain the leader has earned enough good will with his social service in the last seven or eight years. "What's wrong if he has huge wealth? He has been running two AC dispensaries on wheels to provide free health care to the needy. He has been providing water free of charge to people with his fleet of over 20 water tankers,'' said Yogendra Bidhuri of Chhatarpur village.
Tanwar provides all these services under the umbrella of Narayani Devi Trust, which has been named after his mother and his father is the chairman of the body. This BSP candidate also distributes monthly pension to approximately 1,700 widows. "To ensure this continues, the trust has invested Rs 10 crore as fixed deposit,'' said one of his close aides.
Sure of his victory, the leader promises to bring maximum government funds to his constituency and to work for all round development of the locality. "I am not money hungry. With God's grace I have enough to take care of my family. I will give back to everyone if they elect me,'' Tanwar says.

The Gujjar is the largest tribe of the World

The U.S.A. and her allied countries had propounded the idea of a broad-based Government in Afghanistan, comprising of all the ethnic and linguastic groups. The western countries had false perception about the exact ethnic and linguastic division of Afghanistan. It was mistakenly believed that the Afghnistan is ethnically devided into Pushtoons and Persian speaking Northern alliance. The U.S.A. and its allies, while forming the present Karzai Government in Afghanistan, absolutely ignored the second largest and major ethnic Gujjar community. The Gujjars constitutes to be 35% of Afghanistan’s total population.

2. The Gujjar is the largest tribe of the World, which is admittedly recognized to be the major ethnic group in Pakistan, India, Indo-Pak held Jammu & Kashmir, Xing Xiang(China), Tibet, Nepal, Bhuttan, Sakkum, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Georgia and other Central Asian States. The Gujjars can rightly be termed as an International tribe, who are not restricted and confined by the frontiers or borders.
3. There is much known about the Gujjars dwelling in almost all parts of India and Pakistan. There population in India and Pakistan is 20 & 03-billion respectively. The Sub-Continent and Central Asia was ruled for centuries by the Gujjars, also known as Gurjars. It was during their rule that thousands of places were named after them or their sub-tribes in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asian States, e.g. Gujarat, Gujaranwala, Gujarwal, Gujar Dhar, Gujar Garrh, Gujar Khan, Kalla Gujjaran, Gujar Garrhi, Gurjistan, Gujarni, Gujaristan, Georjia, Gujar Abad and Gujar Khashi, There are numerous places named after the sub-clans of Gujjars, e.g.Chechania, Chechian, Jhanda Chechi, Kharian, New-Katarian, etc.
4. The Gujjars of Afghanistan have always played a very important and significant role in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan is broadly divided into four major ethnic groups, i.e.
(1)-Pushtoons 40%,
(2)-Gujjars speaking Gujari and other languages 35%,
(3)-Persian speaking 10% and
(4)-others 15%.
The over whelming and majority population of 14 Provinces of Afghanistan consists of Gujjar tribe, who generally speak Gujjari language. In some areas they also speak Pushto or Persian in addition to Gujjari language. This language is also spoken by the Gujjars of India and Pakistan. The Gujjarati, Daccani, Rajasthani, Mewati and mewarri, according to some scholars, are the regional names and dialects of Gujjari language. A brief and approximate account of Gujjar population in some of the Afghan-Provinces is given hereunder  Kunnarr : This province is situated in the south of Afghanistan andin the North of Pakistan. The Gujjar tribe is living with over-whelming majority in this Province. The famous towns and villages of the Gujjars are Narrai, Asmar, Hari Kot, Tashagul, Konigul, Gorin, Inchagal, Samsagal, Karchigal, Bazagal, Batash, Hegal and Asoom, etc.
ii) Lughman : Its more than 50% population consists of Gujjar tribe. There are approximately 45-villages having hundred percent Gujjar population.

viii) Baglan : In this Province over 40% population belongs to the Gujjar caste.
ix) Aneshkamesh : The 70% population of this Province is consisted of Gujjar tribe.
x) Palol : The Gujjar is a majority tribe of this Province. The Gujjar commanders Mr. Ghulam Sakhi Khattana and Mr.Fardol Khatana, the militant leaders of Harkat-e-Islamia Afghanistan also belonged to this Province. They inflicted collosal loss to the enemy during the cold-war.
xi) Andraf : The Gujjars constitues ¾ population of this Province. The Gujjar Generals Moman Bherwal and Mr. Arbab Therwal Malang, the militant Gujjar Commanders of Hizb-e-Islami belonged to this province. These Generals earned lot of name and recognition during the cold-war.
xii) Taloqan : The Gujjars forms half of the population of the Province. Mr. Arbab Hakeem Chechi, the Supreme Gujjar Commander of Hizb-e-Islami also belonged to this Province. He also earned world wide recognition during the cold war.
xiii) Shabargan : The Gujjars are 1/3 of the total population of this Province.
5. The Gujjars are also living with a prominent sizeable minority in the following Provinces of Afghanistan : -
i Nangarhar,
ii Kabul,
iii Logar,
iv Qandhar,
v Gazni,
vi Kapisa,
vii Gardez,
viii Tamroze, and
ix Harat.
6. The Gujjars played a leading role in war (Jehad) against the U.S.S.R. since beginning in the year 1979. Mir Afzal Chechi of Kunnarr Province was one of the leading founders to organise and start the war(Jehad) to liberate Afghanistan from the clutches of U.S.S.R., who also sacrificed his life for the sacred cause. Malik Sher Afzal and Malik Qabeel of Kunnarr Province also significantly contributed towards organizing the war and Jehad against the U.S.S.R.
7. The following militant leaders of various Jahadi organizations, who fought against the U.S.S.R., also belonged to the Gujjar tribe of Afghanistan:-
i) Dr.M.Abdul Qayyum, Founder, Hizb-e-Islam
ii) Maulana M.Younas Khalis Quaid, Hizb-e-Islam
iii) Muhammad Ayub, Amir, Tanzeem Ahl-e-Hadith
iv) Ghulam Chechi, Commander Hizb-e-Islam
v) Mauland Akhawandzada Commander Harkat-e-Islami
vi) Nadir Khan Commander Harkat-e-Islami
vii) Arbab Mian Gul Chechi Commander Jamaat-e-Islami
viii) Haji Zardali Commander Hizb-e-Islami
ix) Haji Daim Khan Commander Tanzeem Ahl-e-Hadith
x) Musafar Khan Commander Hizb-e-Islami
xi) Maulana Umra Khan Commander Hizb-e-Islami
xii) Haji Badam Khan Commander Mahaz-e-Milli
xiii) Mir Alam Commander Jamat-e-Islami
xiv) Malik Sadbar Commander Hizb-e-Islami
xv) Maulana Kaduaali Amir Islami Hizb
xvi) Mirza Lal Doei Commander Jamat-e-Islami
xvii) Madir Gujjarwal Commander Harkat-e-Islami
xviii) Malik Jabeen Chechi Commander Hizb-e-Islam
ixix) Malik Shireen Commander Hizb-e-Islami
xx) Malik Maasal Commander Hizb-e-Islami
xxi) Hazrat Bilal Sher Commander Harkat-e-Islami
xxii) Malik Gul Sharif Commander Tanzeem Ahl-e-Hadith
8. The thousands of Gujjar Mujahideens sacrificed their lives while fighting against USSR during the period of cold war. A large number of Gujjars had to migrate to Pakistan and other neighbouring countries during and after the cold-war. The majority of Gujjar migratees were living in Bhai Cheena Camps, Anayat Kaley Camps in Bajorr Agency, Dodaba Camps and Ranrri Camps in Dir district of Pakistan.
9. The culture, language, customs and traditions of the Gujjars are entirely different than the pushtoon ethnic stock. The Gujjars of Afghanistan speaks Gujjari language, the language that also spoken in most of the areas of Indo & Pakistan and enjoys its representation on a number of state owned Radio and Television channels in India and Pakistan.
10. It will be worth mentioning that the Pushto speaking population do not belong to one community, triabal or racial group rather they are devided into Shanwaris, Afridis, Safis, Khattaks, Mashwanis and Yousafzais, etc. etc., whereas, on the contrary the Gujjars of Afghanistan belongs to one racial and tribal group unlike Pushtoons, who are just a linguistic group.
11. The over 30-Million Gujjars in Pakistan and 20-Billion Gujjars in India had extended their implied and unconditional support to the notion of forming the broad based Afghan-Government comprising of all the ethnic groups and communities in Afghanistan so to win the war against terror.
12. It was expected that the Gujjars being the second largest ethnic and linguistic community certainly was to be considered as a significant constitutent in broad-based government as by ignoring the Gujjars neither any government can function as a representative establishment nor that could be a workable or perpetual solution to the growing problems of Afghanistan. The U.S.A., U.K. and Pakistan Governments should have derived an acceptable formula giving due representation to the Gujjars of Afghanistan.
13. The worrior & majority Gujjar tribe has not been given any representation while forming the present Afghan Government, the result is obvious, the writ of presetn Afghan-Government could hardly be established within the radious of only two Kilo meter area and more specifically speaking within the Presidential Compound under the guard and security of Allied forces. They are the brave Gujjars only who can restrict and confine the war-lords into their cloths and can bring the perpetual peace in Afghanistan. These Gujjars of Afghanistan also enjoys the unshaken support of 23-billion Gujjars of Pakistan and India. The Allied Forces, in order to bring the perpetual peace in Afghanistan, may even now draw a strategy to form a true representative Aghan-Government.Thank of Articles by Ch. M. Ashraf Gujjar

Sardar Abdul Rehman Gojar

Rukhsana Kauser Gujjar

Gujjars demand gallantry award for Rukhsana
October 1, 2009

Jammu: Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday demanded the country’s highest gallantry award for their community girl who killed a top Lashkar-e-Taiba militant in Rajouri district recently.

“She has done our community proud. We urge President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to honour the brave girl with the highest gallantry award of the country,” Tribal Foundation Secretary Javaid Rahi told journalists here.

Rukhsana (22) killed the militant and injured another at Kalsian village, about 217 km from here on the night of September 27.

A letter signed by top Gujjar leaders was sent to Ms. Patil, Dr. Singh and Mr. Chidambaram, urging them to recognize this “rarest, unmatched and extraordinary act of courage of a fearless young Gujjar girl,” Dr. Rahi said. She deserved a national honor for this, he added.

Rukhsana, along with her sibling, overpowered a Lashkar terrorist, snatched his rifle and fired at him, killing him on the spot.

Sardar Gujjar Singh Bhangi

Sardar Gujjar Singh Bhangi (d. 1788)

Gujjar Singh Bhangi was one of the triumvirate who ruled over Lahore for thirty years before its occupation by Ranjit Singh, was son of a cultivator of modest means, Nattha Singh. Strong and well built, Gujjar Singh received the vows of the Khalsa at the hands of his maternal grandfather Gurbakhsh Singh Roranvala, who presented him with a horse and recruited him a member of his band. As Gurbakhsh singh was growing old, he made Gujjar Singh head of his band. Soon the band was united to the force of Hari Singh, head of the Bhangi Misl of chiefship. Gujjar Singh set out on a career of conquest and plunder. In 1765, he along with Lahina singh ,adopted son of Gurbakhsh Singh, and Sobha Singh, an associate of Jai Singh Kanhaiya , captured Lahore, from the Afghans. As Lahina Singh was senior in relationship, being his maternal uncle, Gujjar Singh allowed Lahina Singh to take possession of the city and the fort, himself occupying eastern part of the city, then a jungle. Gujjar Singh erected part of the city, then a jungle. Gujjar Singh erected a mud fortress and invited people to settle there. He sank wells to supply water. A mosque was built for muslims. The area, the site of present-day railway station of Lahore, still bears his name and is known as Qila Gujjar Singh.
Gujjar Singh next captured Eminabad, Wazirabad, Sodhra and about 150 villages in Gujranwala district. He then took Gujarat from Sultan Muqarrab Khan whom he defeated under the walls of the city in December 1765, capturing both the city and the adjoining country, and making Gujrat his headquarters. Next year, he overran Jammu, seized Islamgarh, Punchh, Dev Batala and extended his territory as far as the Bhimbar hills in the North and the Majha country in the south. DuringAhmad Shah Durrani's eighth invasion, Gujjar Singh along with other Sikh Sardars offered him strong opposition. When in January 1767, the Durrani commander-in-chief reached Amritsar at the hed of 15,000 troops, the Sikh Sardars routed the Afghan horde. Soon afterwards Gujjar Singh laid siege to the famous fort of Rohtas, held by the Gakkhars, with the assistance of Charat Singh Sukkarchakia , who was on the most amicable terms with him and gave his daughter, Raj Kaur, in marriage to his son, Sahib Singh. Gujjar Singh subjugated the warlike tribes in the northwestern Punjab and occupied portions of Pothohar, Rawalpindi and Hasan Abdal.
Gujjar Singh died at Lahore in 1788.
